Karen Garrett, Secretary, 2005-2007

Karen was born and raised in Ontario on the eastern side of Oregon and Idaho border.  She moved to Vancouver 16 years ago. Her interest in social work started in Jr. High and continued on through college.  She was a Social work trainee for the State of Idaho for two years.  She had her own caseload of seniors at a local nursing home and enjoyed working with them.  She graduated with an AA degree in Psychology and Sociology.

Many years later, she returned to college and received her Family Studies Bachelor degree from Western Baptist College in 2000.  She worked at Fort Vancouver Convalescence Center in Vancouver and Gateway Care and Retirement before acquiring her current position at Holladay Park Plaza as Director of Social Services.

Connie Corey, Treasurer, 2006-2007

Connie entered health care 12 years ago.  She developed an interest in “Health Care”  due to circumstances of her father's failing health.  At one time – by the suggestion of a friend – who is a R.N. she did start a plan to become a nurse.  She completed a two-year program of pre-requisites for the nursing school of study.

Her interest in nursing evolved along the way.  She has worked for seven years as an “Activity Director”.  She now functions as SSD at Village Manor.  When people ask what it is that she does for a living, she proudly states that she is “ A professional Advocate for those that do not have a voice”    She feels privileged that she is able to enhance the lives of these residents.  Working with a team that cares about the lives of residents, we can and do daily make a difference – we do enhance the lives of these residents.  In turn, these residents give back to us – in their own special manner – they enhance our lives.
